Graduate Student:

Zachary Moran

As a first-year student, I have just recently begun work in the lab.  Generally speaking, my interests lie heavily in seeking out an understanding of schizophrenia from a more global standpoint, particularly on the level of interactions among neural systems.  Along these lines I have developed an interest in emotional and cognitive interplay in the disorder.  For my Master's thesis, I will be examining the effects of emotional stimulation on a very early stage of cognitive processing, known as sensory gating, via measurement of the P50 component of the event-related brain potential (ERP).

Prior to my arrival at UCLA, I was involved with research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison investigating the relationship between elements of depressive symptomatology, specifically anhedonia and rumination, and a positively-valenced form of affective empathy.
